Since its completion last year, The Saint John’s Bible has been seen by countless thousands through museum exhibits, national news show segments, magazine articles, and print exhibitions. In a world that so often considers the Bible obsolete, this is a significant accomplishment! It has become precisely what Saint John’s Abbey originally dreamed it could–a Bible for the 21st century.
But the monks weren’t just speaking about fame. Their hope was that it would touch hearts and reignite the spiritual imagination, and we are blessed to see that happen every day with Seeing the Word. The timeless rhythm of visio divina encourages us to make room in our hearts for the seed of God’s Word to grow, opening us to a world of beauty. It might not make national news when a person encounters the Spirit through The Saint John’s Bible, but it is certainly life altering!
One retreat participant recently put it this way:
“Visio Divina helped me to foster Presence by seeing the amazing art expression, hearing God’s Word prayerfully read, and then moving out of silence to sharing with the group.”
Advent is right around the corner, and the season will yet again invite us to prepare for our Lord’s arrival, or as this participant put it, to foster God’s Presence. There is still time to order Seeing the Word Reflection Guides, which make excellent devotions for families and Church groups. If you haven’t planned for an Advent spiritual renewal, now is the time! Sincerely,
